Steven R. Drennon was born in Lawton, OK, where he first started writing at the age of 15. When his first mainstream publishing deal for his first fantasy novel fell through at the age of 21, he gave up on writing and started to focus on a business career and starting a family. By the time he was 30, he had started working on a new fantasy novel.
After three publishers expressed interest in the outline and sample chapters of this new novel, he completed the manuscript and submitted it to each. The first publisher declined, but the others asked for revisions, such as reducing the word count and the number of characters. Upon submitting the revised manuscript, a second publisher opted out, but the third asked for additional revisions. Once the new revisions were completed, this new manuscript was submitted, but the final publisher ultimately declined to move forward. After this discouraging development, Steven decided to give up on writing once again.
Twenty years later, at the age of 50, after reading an article by J.A. Konrath in which he discussed his success with self-publishing on the Amazon Kindle platform, Steven decided to dust off his old fantasy manuscript and self-publish it. When this first book met with some minor success, he decided to write a second fantasy novel and self-publish it as well. Over the next five years, he would self-publish a few more books, which also met with some minor success, leading him to make the decision to go into early retirement as soon as he turned 55 so that he could pursue writing full-time.
Since then, Steven has published more than a dozen titles under his own name, including several volumes of poetry, four fantasy novels, three mystery/suspense novellas, and a collection of dramatizations of Medal of Honor recipients. In addition, he has published more than two dozen titles in other genres using different pseudonyms.
Currently, Steven is working on completing three more fantasy novels, a new suspense novel, and two new collections of Medal of Honor dramatizations. He will also soon reissue many of the books written under a pseudonym so that they will be published under his own name.
