I saw you come through the door,
And my first thought was to hide
From you among the crowd of people.
I knew that you had love in your heart,
But I was afraid to share it.
I tried carefully to avoid you,
Hoping to escape your sight, but,
Unaware, I walked into your line of vision,
And as my eyes looked into yours,
I saw that you understood
That I could not love you,
Even though my heart longed for you.
I watched you as you walked away,
And my eyes followed you closely.
Then as you reached for the door
I saw you turn for one last look,
And only then did I see the tears.
I hesitated as you walked out the door,
But I could no longer restrain myself.
I started for the door after you,
Confused by the desires within me,
And as I ran out into the night
I called out loud your name
With the hopes that you’d be near,
But all I saw were the taillights
As you drove away from me,
And only then did I feel the tears.
