SHE DID IT

I was just sixteen when I fell in love with her.
I told her that I had a love that she would prefer.
She said I’d do for awhile, but she had her doubts,
And if she ever got unhappy she would walk right out.

Then she did it.
She took her love away from me.
Yes, she did it.
I thought our love was meant to be.

I never dreamed our love could ever come to an end
Until she told me that we could never be more than friends.
When she said those words I thought that I might die,
But she told me she never meant to make me cry.

But she did it.
The tears are flowing from my eyes.
Yes, she did it.
To love that lady was unwise.

Until my dying day I’ll be longing for her.
Perhaps it’s just a dream that never did occur,
And yet I keep on hoping that someday she’ll care,
But I wake up each day to see that she’s not there.
