When I saw you yesterday
I just let you walk on by.
I didn’t know just what to say,
So I didn’t even try.
As you walked across the street
I just wondered for a while,
If our eyes should chance to meet,
Could I even force a smile?
But it’s over now, I know,
And you’ll never come again.
Yes I know you had to go,
But I just wondered,
What it might have been?
I started fighting back the tears
As you faded out of sight,
And I thought of all the years
We gave up without a fight.
Now I’ve given up my pride
As my tears begin to fall.
I just wondered deep inside
If you ever cared at all?
But it’s over now, I know,
And I’ll never love again,
Because you know I loved you so,
And I just wondered,
What it might have been.
