WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS THERE?

As she sits alone, she picks up the phone
And dials his number again.
He picks up the line, and says he is fine,
Then asks her how long it has been.

They talk for a while, and he makes her smile,
But then of course, she knew he would,
For he had a way; he knew what to say
To comfort her like no one could.

She feels warm inside. The phone helps her hide
The pain he detects, but can’t see.
But she starts to cry as she asks him, “Why
Have you always been there for me?

Why are you always there to pick me up
Each time I feel the need to call?
Why are you always there to dust me off
Each time that I’ve taken a fall?
Why are you always there to make me smile
With almost no effort at all?
Why are you always there to pick me up
Each time that I’ve taken a fall?”

It’s quiet at first. She’s thinking the worst,
Believing it’s just sympathy.
But then he replies, and tears fill her eyes
As he answers her honestly.

“I can’t help but do the best things for you,
For you make me feel like a man
Who’s needed so much, and somehow you touch
Me like no other woman can.

You’ve captured my heart, and I’d like to start
Out being much more than your friend.
So come to me now, and I’ll show you how
To make all your loneliness end.

That’s why I’m always there to pick you up
Each time you feel the need to call.
That’s why I’m always there to dust you off
Each time that you’ve taken a fall.
That’s why I’m always there to make you smile
With almost no effort at all.
That’s why I’m always there to pick you up
Each time that you’ve taken a fall.”
