I DON’T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND

It’s time that you learned to stand on your own
And try to make your way through alone.
I just can’t be there for you
Each time that you’re feeling blue
And you call me on the phone.

I don’t want to be the one who mends your heart
Every time somebody else has torn it apart.
We both know that once you’re feeling better
You’ll go back and do it again.
I don’t want to be the one you call in the night
When the love you thought you’d found is nowhere in sight.
Girl, I love you too much to watch
You go through that once again.
I don’t want to be your friend.

You’ll have to learn how to be real strong
And rise above it when things go wrong.
Although I may not be there
You know that I will still care,
‘Cause I’ve been loving you all along.
