LET THE BOY SING

He walked up to the microphone
After the band had paused for another break.
Then he sat down with his old six string
As people were wondering what kind of music he’d make.
He paused for a moment, then he started to strum.
Some people smiled as he started to hum.
Then he started singing and everyone looked at the stage.

But that’s when the manager came up and said,
“I’m sorry son, but I can’t let you play anymore.”
He simply smiled and then he nodded his head,
Then that’s when he got up and started to head for the door.
Then suddenly someone who played in the band
Said, “Wait just a minute. Let’s give him a hand.
Come on back son, you can join us up here on the stage.

Why don’t we let the boy sing?
Why don’t we let the boy play?
We can listen to his melody
And the words he’s got to say.
Come on and let the boy sing.
Why don’t we let him sing his song?
He’s got a nice and steady rhythm and
I think we can play along.
Why don’t we let the boy sing?”

Many years later when he was a man
And he was preparing to headline a show of his own,
A skinny young boy came out on the stage,
His six string in hand as he walked up to the microphone.
He smiled as the kid was beginning to play
For he was now thinking of some other day.
Then he told his band, “Let’s join him on the stage.”
