SOMEONE SUCH AS SHE

I never could have loved you,
Had it not been for her.
For she showed me I’d never be
Complete with one like her.
I never could have been the man
That you want me to be
If I had not been hurt before
By someone such as she.

I never could have made you smile
With all the things I do
If she had never shown me how
To suffer through the blues.
I never could have given you
The better part of me
If I had not been hurt before
By someone such as she.

It took someone such as she
To show me how a man can cry.
She taught me that the day she
Walked away and said goodbye.
It took someone such as she
To show me what a fool I’ve been.
Then it took someone like you
To make me want to love again.

I never could have cried the tears
That you so often see,
If I had not been hurt before
By someone such as she,
But I have learned to love again
And I will swear it’s true,
That someone such as she could not
Replace someone like you.
