GOING THERE ALONE

I know today will be a day I’d just as soon forget.
I’m driving down the highway, don’t know where I’m going yet.
I know that Oklahoma’s pretty nice this time of year,
But any place will be just fine as long
As it gets me out of here.

In my mind I hear her say those words I can’t believe.
She said that it was over and she thought that I should leave.
So now I’m heading out of town as fast as I can go
While the DJ plays another lonesome song
On the country radio.

As the highway markers fall away behind me,
I don’t even know how many miles I’ve gone.
Then I see the exit signs and they remind me
I don’t know where I’m going but I know
I’ll be going there alone.
