IN HER EYES

There are times when the job
Keeps me late at night
And I can’t be with her
The way I’d like to be.
Sometimes I wonder deep inside
If she might have her doubts
About how much I care
When she’s not here with me.

I always do the best I can
To make sure she understands
She’s always on my mind
When I’m not there with her,
And even so, I sometimes find
That I wonder if she knows
I love her very much
‘Cause she’s my little girl.

It’s a very special night
When I can be at home with her
So I can tuck her in
And help her say her prayers.
Then she puts my mind at ease
When she whispers, “Daddy, please,
Won’t you stay with me
Until I fall asleep?”

In her eyes I can see understanding
And then at last, I finally realize
That the love she feels for me is undemanding,
And I feel that love when I look in her eyes.
