I love the taste of good, smooth whiskey.
Lord, it warms me to my bones,
And there’s nothing like a good woman
To make a man feel right at home.
I used to have the best of both,
But then one day I had to choose,
And even though I loved that woman,
I gave her up and took the booze.
I used to think I could control it,
But then it got the best of me.
Everybody tried to warn me,
But like a fool, I couldn’t see
That once you’ve tasted that smooth whiskey,
You’ll have it running through your veins,
And when you try to do without it,
It will make you go insane.
Once I tasted that smooth whiskey,
I lost my wife and lost my home.
I told myself it didn’t matter,
I would make it on my own.
As long as I’ve got this bottle in my hand,
I know I’ll never be alone.
Now my life is getting better.
I’ve seen the error of my ways.
I’ve finally gotten sober,
And I try to stay that way each day.
I’ve got to tell you, it’s not easy.
Believe me, friend, I ought to know.
When that whiskey gets hold of you,
It doesn’t ever let you go.
