STARTING OVER

She’s played this game before, and lost.
She never thought about the cost.
The price she paid for love was much too high.
She tries to see where things went wrong,
But she gives up before too long,
And then she sits alone and starts to cry.

She knows that love’s an uphill climb,
But still, she told herself in time
He’d come to share the love she felt inside,
But then in time, she came to see
He’s better as a memory,
But it breaks her heart to know he never tried.

Now the hardest part is yet to come.
When she said goodbye, she’d just begun.
She tells herself she couldn’t dwell
On things that might have been.
It’s time for starting over once again.

She’s trying hard to leave the past,
And now she finds it’s fading fast.
Before too long, she knows she’ll be all right.
Now in the mirror she can see
The woman she set out to be.
She’s ready now to face another night.
