VERY SPECIAL KID

She’s an angel with dirty feet
Running barefoot across the street
Trying to play all she can before the summer ends.
She’s a diamond in the rough,
And all the neighbor boys know she’s tough.
Every kid on the block is her best friend.

She gets upset when the sun goes down
But before you know it, she’s come unwound.
Then she says goodbye to another day.
When morning comes she’s off again,
Playing games she’ll always win.
At times she hardly knows you’ve gone away.

She’s a very special kid,
Keeping all her sorrow hid,
Except for when she says her prayers to God above.
‘Cause when she’s down there on her knees,
I hear her saying, “Please
Lord, if you see my mommy, give her love,
From both of us.”

She’s really grown since you were here.
I can’t believe it’s been three years.
I think you’d be so proud of all she’s done.
She’s really taken care of me.
I only wish that you could see
The many ways she’s found to make life fun.

You know, she’s really adapted well.
As for me, only time can tell.
I’ve been so absorbed in her, it seems.
There’s not a chance she’ll forget her mom.
Her devotion still grows strong.
She tells me that she sees you in her dreams.
