There used to be a time when you would hold me in the morning,
And we both would wish the night would never end,
But then one day you realized you had a different longing.
So we both set out on different paths again.
Today when I first saw you face to face it felt so awkward,
But I realized it shouldn’t be that way.
I said it’s good to see you and you’re really looking well,
And then before you said a word I had to say.
Do you remember when I used to call you sunshine?
Do you remember when I used to call you mine?
My life was so much brighter then,
When we were more than simply friends.
Do you remember when I used to call you mine?
I saw you stand there struggling for something you could say
In response to the things that I’d just said.
Then, at a loss for words, you just took my hand in yours
And then you waited for me to speak instead.
I said I face each morning knowing I don’t have the sunshine
That I used to have to brighten up my day.
That’s why when I first saw you I knew I would have to come
To you and take this opportunity to say.
Do you remember when I used to call you sunshine?
Do you remember when I used to call you mine?
My life was so much brighter then,
When we were more than simply friends.
Do you remember when I used to call you mine?
I watched a single tear start rolling down your pretty face
As you thought about the way things were back then.
You smiled and then you laughed as I kissed away the teardrop.
Then you said you’d like to come back home again.
