LONELY TONIGHT

Setting the table.
Lighting the candle.
Making sure everything’s right.
I wish that you’d come
So you can join me.
We’ll have a wonderful night.

But then the phone rings.
I answer, you tell me
That you won’t be coming tonight.
It hurts when you tell me
But I say don’t worry,
And finally, I say it’s alright.

Clearing the table.
Dousing the candle.
Getting prepared for the night.
Feeling so lonely.
Why did you hurt me?
It’s going to be a long night.

Going to bed now.
Still I am lonely.
How can I make it tonight?
Still there’s tomorrow.
Maybe I’ll see you,
And everything will be alright.
