MAKE-BELIEVE LOVERS

When I go to bed at night
And I’m by myself,
I usually end up wishing
I could be somewhere else.
Then I close my eyes and
I hide beneath the covers,
And when I fall asleep I start
Dreaming of make-believe lovers.

Make-believe lovers are
Holding me close in the night.
Make-believe kisses are
Finally making things right.
Make-believe lovers, unlike many others,
Will do what you want them to,
But make-believe lovers could
Never love me quite like you.

Every night I toss and I turn
Because I’ve hardly slept,
And the tears on my pillow are
Caused by the memories I’ve kept.
I start thinking of you and
Then before soon I discover
That once again I’m asleep and I’m
Dreaming of make-believe lovers.
