THE DEATH OF CHIVALRY

They sit upon their silent steeds,
Each one well known for gallant deeds,
Prepared to end their rivalry.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

One knight is dressed in black today.
His foe stands ready, dressed in gray.
They face each other silently.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

They charge each other, swords on hand,
Each fighting for a piece of land.
They strive to save their dignity.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

They swing and lung with mighty swords,
These strong, determined feudal lords.
They strike each other endlessly.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

The knight in black falls to the ground.
The crowd is silent, not a sound.
The knight in gray claims victory.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

Until the death, they both agreed,
And yet the victor sees no need.
He spares the black knight, graciously.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.

He turns his back upon his foe
To claim his prize. One final blow,
And then he stumbles to one knee.
Come mourn the death of chivalry.
