WHY DID YOU?

Though the grass grows green in the valley,
And the sea reaches out for the shore,
There’s a place here within my heart where
The sun doesn’t shine anymore.
While the flowers grow in the meadow,
And the birds sing loud in the trees,
I can’t convince you of my love,
Even though I’m down on my knees.

If you didn’t really love me,
Why did you have to hurt me?
I would have given all my love
So why did you have to desert me?

Now the sun shines upon the orchards,
And the wind rushes through the skies,
And though everything is so lovely,
I can’t keep the tears from my eyes.
As the waves ripple through the ocean,
And the sun fades into the west,
I think of all of my past loves,
And realize you were the best.
