MIDNIGHT PROMISES

The promises that we made as
The midnight moon put us to sleep
Of sharing everlasting love
Were empty lies we couldn’t keep.

I promised I would stay with you
In spite of what my life should bring,
But passion forced those words from me,
And now they don’t mean anything.

You promised I would have your love,
But every time I feel your touch
I know that you still care for him,
And losing him would be too much.

The promises that we both made
As passion filled the lonely night,
Tomorrow will be only dreams
Of love which fades once gone from sight.
