SMILING EYES

Her eyes flashed brightly when
She walked by, almost as if
They were smiling directly at me.
Then she smiled and laughed
As the wind tossed her hair
Carelessly about her face.
I stood there alone, astounded
By her absolute beauty
And impressed with her grace.
She went and sat alone,
Reading quietly as I watched her
From a distance, wondering
If I should go and talk to her.
I felt so unsure of myself,
So instead I simply stood there,
Admiring her magnetic presence.
When she finally rose to leave
I felt a sudden emptiness,
As though I would never again
See such beauty in my life.
As she walked away she looked at me,
And once again I saw her smile,
And I began to regret
Never knowing her.
