PRIDE

We’ve both tried unsuccessfully
To find a meaningful relationship,
Much like the one we once shared.
It was I who abruptly ended
What may well have been something
Beautiful and lasting and fulfilling.
We’ve passed each other casually
As we walk along the street, and yet
We’ve never tried to acknowledge
The fact that we were once lovers.
You provided me with complete
Fulfillment and offered total love,
And I’m glad that I at least once
Was able to bring you some happiness.
Hopefully, when I see you again,
I’ll be able to speak to you
About the way I felt then and
The way I feel now about you,
But first I need to overcome my pride.
