EMPTY FEELING

So many days have passed
Since I last held you closely,
And now they have stretched
Into weeks, and then months.
I thought that all the pain
Would slowly fade away
With the memories as the days
Went by in an endless flow.
How foolish I was to think
That the memories of the years
We shared together would
Simply fade away in a few months.
The time we shared together
Far exceeds the time we’ve
Spent apart, and the memories
Of the happier days we knew
Are more numerous than those
Of the sad, unhappy times.
I never expected to feel such pain
When I turned away from you,
And I only hope that the pain
I brought to you is not as great
As the lost, empty feeling within me.
