A LETTER AND A GIFT

I’ll dedicate this verse to you
In recognition of the love
You have expressed for me.
Please forgive the lack of rhyme,
Instead accept it for the reason,
For I truly care for you deeply.
You’ve given me much more than
Most would ever offer, and truly
I am thankful for that fact.
I know I’ve hesitated repeatedly,
And perhaps you’re unsure as to
How I feel for you, if at all.
Rest assured that I do care,
And although I can’t bring myself
To say “I love you” just yet,
I hope that you will wait
And give me the time I need
To find my true emotions.
I may not be able to offer my love,
But I would like to give you
A small gift as a token
And a symbol of my efforts
To discover the love you long for,
And which I would like so much
To share with only you.
It’s just a small stuffed bear,
The kind a child might have,
But I hope that you will
Think of me whenever you
Should happen to see it.
Perhaps you’ll hold it at night
The way I wish I could hold you,
But since I can’t be there,
I hope it will serve to remind you
That I do care when you’re
Alone at night in your room.
Let it stand as a symbol
Of my attempt to find love
So that I might share it.
I hope that you have only
Pleasant thoughts when you hold it,
And that it brings you sweet dreams
Late at night, and a smile in the mornings.
