MY OLD FRIEND

I left Edinburgh, VA on Saturday afternoon.
I never bothered to thank your folks
For all they’d done for me.
I headed down to Blacksburg
To see you one last time,
But I never got to hold you even once.

I told myself I wouldn’t miss you,
At least not at first,
But when I got home to Oklahoma,
The loneliness got worse.
I knew that you and I would
Never cross our paths again,
And it’s so hard to have to say
Goodby to you old friend.

We used to be so close
And I’ve known you for so long,
But the time and distance between us
Was too great to overcome.
You know I’ll always miss you
And think of you now and then.
I wish that you would miss me
Half as much, my old friend.
