I need you so much
To hold me at night
And listen to my ideas
And share my happy times.
I want you to be there
To make me smile and laugh
When I’m depressed at times,
And to say that you love me.
I love you, it’s true,
But not as much
As perhaps I should,
For someone else has
Stolen the heart I wanted
To present to you,
And although I still love her,
And perhaps always will,
I do not need her
As I truly need you now,
And I do not want her
The way I once did long ago.
I ask you to understand,
For I do indeed love you,
But I must ask that you
Permit me to love her
In secret, without longing,
For I must.
